Creating a new series of works can sometimes become a test to see how well an artist can navigate a block. The pieces are sometimes right in front of them, but the vision is still hazy. The truth is, that for me, creativity has been running like a quiet motor in the back of my head, as I try to decide the next steps and spaces to engage. I've found myself recently in a place where I'm in between being and becoming. Where the energy of who I am is meeting who I will be all at once. It's a surreal experience because it's one of those pivotal moments in life and career where the next move chosen can influence the direction and depth of the creative practice.

Honestly, it's a little scary to be in this space. My journey is highly unconventional, as I spent many years working on sets and photoshoots as a makeup artist, learning on the go and experiencing the real results of success and failure with every gig and interaction of that journey. Becoming a visual artist, whose canvas moved from people to paper or surface, has been one of those inner journeys that I have been blessed to share outwardly through works, social media, and showings. It's also been a slower pace, which affords me time to throw myself into my work. I say all this to say that right now, I feel I'm at this turning point. Where I no longer create to appease or acquiesce or submit to a system, but I create purely to translate deeper meaning, in order to truly cultivate resonance of our human experiences through marks, hues, and textures. Recently, I've been working on a small series, set apart from my usual work, to explore deep and personal emotions that resonate throughout humanity. The feelings of awe, confidence, the sublime, anguish, and all emotions I feel throughout life's journey. As I create these works and studies, I'm finding myself becoming aware that this may become the new normal I lean into. These new sketches, paintings, ideas, and inspirations are becoming. a core language of this exploration of becoming in my art. I am finding myself really digging deeper into a vulnerable space, tapping into elements of self I normally don't draw attention to, in order to move, creatively as a visual artist, in this space. It is scary but worth it.

It is so important for me to prioritize authenticity in my work and align with the truth of the frequencies associated with my creative perspective. I think every time an artist sets out to do this, they create remarkable work that transcends language and time. The work becomes something that is not just consumable but nourishing to those who view it. This is the trajectory and the space that I continue to move towards with courage and faith. Hopefully, as these pieces develop, resonance, introspection, inspiration, and nourishment will be the frequency felt from these expressions.
